Paris: the "Iron Lady"
Seeing the Eiffen Tower at night in Paris has been considered one of the most remarkable sights in the world. The “iron or metal lady”, as I t is called, is covered by over 350 projectors of 1000 W each, 4 floodlights at 6000 W, 800 fairy lights and 20000 light bulbs which twinkle in the night every half hour. Those were originally installed for the new millennium’s celebration, but the city liked them and decided to keep them after that.
But consumption and maintenance costs were too high. Therefore a new cost-reducing system was developed and in the year 2003 they were put back on the tower. This event was celebrated with a stunning firework display to which over 20000 visitors attended. It will take now many years before those bulbs will be replaced.
People say that the best location to take a full picture of the tower in all its illuminated glory is from across the Seine River, at the Place du Trocadero.
